The best thing about the background so far is the nice metal wire tubing I made. Illustrator is really great for things like that but man to get a colored image the way you’d do it in a raster program like Photoshop or Painter is tough. Most of the time it’s you wrestling with the options you have in the program to do certain things. I’m amazed I got this far with it.
I have to do something about those monitors, they looks so fake compared to the rest of the image. Maybe I’ll just look up some tutorials on making vector machines and stuff.
I haven’t had much time to work on this lately but when I did, well I changed quite a few things. Number one is that the holes on the suit were all taken out. I replaced them with this power-on button looking decal. I think it makes a lot more sense in the context of what this image will eventually look like. I think the shading and the highlighting need to be more dynamic and intense, though this isn’t nearly close to being finished luckily. Since Vector Art is cancelled for next week’s class, hopefully I can put some more time into this one.
At this stage though, I always imagined that there’d be some crazy cockpit behind this character. Maybe inside of it there’ll be a ton of computer screens that are all flashing some kind of program like photoshop or something. It’d seem really cool if it had a lot of tubing and stuff like in some steam punk work maybe. Still this process of coloring in illustrator takes quite a while, you have to deal with a lot of swatch creation and making sure opacities are right. It might be a lot easier using something like Painter, Artrage or Sai but that isn’t the assignment here. Still if you’re able to control Illustrator to a certain degree, it doesn’t look half bad.

Hilarious how illustrators, animators and artists still don’t quite catch these things. I can totally understand though, maybe they forgot to click off certain layers or they were just way too into what they were doing. I make these kinds of mistakes all the time, still I find it funny to spot them from time to time. Which makes me think, since having six fingers is a rare occurance in people…does that mean our friend the Colonel here in the context of the world of the X Men is infact a mutant? Hmm…
Here’s some progress on my Illustrator project. It’s certainly more time consuming than any traditional methods of inking and I don’t quite like some of the lines on there but those are easily deletable. Still it’s coming along quite nicely for what it is I hope. Thing is I’m starting to get this “Eva” vibe more and more from this. I guess cause the suit itself is somewhat inspired by that test type plug suit look that’s so popular lately. I think I’m going to take off the shoulder holes and change some stuff around. I do like the lower body having that weird shirt style separation like the Asuka test type plug suit so maybe I’ll allow that to stay then.
I’m starting to think maybe I should change it up more radically and do it as a fantasy character a la Ar Tonelico. I’ve liked the designs to come from that series of games and it would look nice to have a half sci-fi and half fantasy looking character. I still don’t know what I’d use this image for however, but that’s the least of my concerns at the moment.
Hola Amigos ! Just thought I’d drop this Gif I’ve been work on here,it was a lot of fun to work on. I made it with a little help from this guy Derek yu, his work is awesome and his tutorials are the stuff of legend, thanks fo the info man! I was inspire to do this while watching Mel do her’s which she posted on her blog Paintberry, it was so much fun I kinda look forward to doing more of the them.
That was basically the highlight of my day but it would have been so much better had the Clippers the beaten the Lakers and my PS3 not epically FAIL…. shiiit, I sooo wanted to play Heavy Rain too =(
It’s been quite a while since the last time I posted anything here. Unfortunately I can’t disclose what I’m working on at the moment and I’ve also been super bogged down by classes. Speaking of something that’s taken a while, did anyone else check out Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn? First Gundam to be based in the Universal Century in quite a while and the first episode was brain combusting epic!

As of lately hard black shades have been calling to me, specifically to use as substitutes for secondary colors of course. As fun as it may seem using lots of black I got say there’s a very complicated science behind using them properly lighting being the most important. I’m going to see how far my experimenting goes, hopefully I will have mastered and tamed this beast sooner than later. For now here’s here’s a little doodle I diddled while experimenting, He’s a viking kid with a man and no name or shame coming to coming the plains over maine..err yeah
Today I’ve managed to cut a good part of my hair (sorta like a faux hawk) and I’m not sure if it’s because my head is lighter and it’s causing me to think better or something but I got really motivated to work on the fifth page of my comic. Unfortunately Mr Muse got here a bit late to start comics so I’ll just have to see if he’s still with me when I wake in the Mo’nin.

Got bored this past Saturday, decide to pick up the pencil and see what comes out. This is a fighting scene between 2 dudes in the snow. I’m still not sure of names or who’s gonna win hmmm..

First of all just want to say it’s been a hell of a week so far and seem like the weekend is going to be badass!! I finally got to watch Avatar yesterday shit was nuts! the Story, was cool but the effects we’re madness. Hopefully JC won’t go into deep seclusion while making Battle Angel. I’d kinda like to see it before I’m forty =). Also, I’m officially hooked on watching Dexter, damn what a great show.
So yeah this is the first page of the comic Mel and I are working on. We have yet to come up with an official name for the comic yet but hopefully the title will sound incredibly badass or at least make sense. It takes place in the 40’s and its about a young couple in love who just happen to take a romantic walk in the wrong place at the wrong time.
